PROVIDING QUALITY EDUCATION ON THE DYNAMIC SOUTH SHORE
Press Release – March 21, 2012
Amy Doran and Connor Doran, 2010 Finalist in “America’s Got Talent” join in Deer Creek’s “Dare to Dream – Anti-Bullying and Epilepsy Awareness”
Deer Creek Intermediate School in St. Francis, WI places positive culture on the forefront. The District pursues a nurturing environment which is created by all members of the Deer Creek community. Deer Creek focuses on helping students develop academic skills, teamwork skills and anti-bullying efforts from the first day of school.
Under the leadership of Principal Mary Garcia-Velez and Team Leaders, Deer Creek Intermediate School created the PECES (Fish in Spanish) Committee. This group of student leaders investigate ways to enhance positive school culture, diffuse bullying, and resolve student conflict. PECES also serves as the student voice for other issues that arise within the school environment.
To enhance PECES efforts, Amy and Connor Doran, 2010 finalist in “America’s Got Talent” on NBC, will be performing and speaking to Deer Creek students. The themes of “Dare to Dream – Anti-Bullying and Epilepsy Awareness” will be the focal points of the presentation.
This event takes place on April 20, 2012 at 1:30 PM at Deer Creek Intermediate School located at 3680 S. Kinnickinnic Avenue at 1:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium. Connor will fly several indoor kite routines using a 4-line Revolution Kite. This is a school event and is closed to the public with exception to local area sponsors.
Top Rated NBC’s America’s Got Talent welcomed Connor to audition after seeing him fly his indoor Revolution Kite on video. Connor auditioned along with 90,000 people and brought indoor kite flying to the world. His skill and love of flying qualified him to the Las Vegas shows, and then back for the live Wildcard Quarter Finals show, in Los Angeles California. Connor’s world-wide support gave him a spot in the top 24 for the Semi-Final Round. He then remained in Los Angeles and landed in the top 12 of America’s Got Talent 2010!
The National Epilepsy Foundation invited Connor to be the keynote speaker and fly his kites at the National Walk for Epilepsy in Washington, DC. He developed the Dare to Dream Team to support Epilepsy Awareness and raised money to support the National Epilepsy Foundation. Connor speaks to people of all ages about his journey and his struggles. Connor’s Dare to Dream motto, “Overcoming Life’s Obstacles,” is a key point that he shares to motivate others to believe in themselves and strive to be everything they can be. Connor speaks out against bullying and helps others gain a voice to speak out for themselves and others.
Co-Sponsors to this District event include: Linda and Neil Thomas, Gift of Wings Kite Stores, Blue Flame Music, Holiday Inn Express, and Weather Tight Corp.
